The Light (POBBLE 365)

As I tripped over in the pitch black I came across something rather queer. The thing that shined in the room, the thing that opened the light into the room that you couldn’t even do except walk around and not get hit in the face by the wall, but something just made it appeal to young ‘Mortimer’ as he did not know how to get home. As he walked around the light, he imagined he would find someway to retrieve it. Mortimer was only ten and the smartest in his class so he always thought there would be patterns in things like this. He was right as there were a few ledges he would just place his feet into comfortably, when he got up to retrieve it he heard voices telling him not to touch it but it felt like he didn’t bring his intelligence up here. He grasped his hands onto the light but it didn’t feel right. At first, It was tingling it kind of tickled him then he yelled and threw the light onto the floor smashing it into pieces. The light was so bright that he didn’t understand the inside of it. The light was fire covered with some sort of glass. The light broke and lost the lighting of the room, it was dark and silent, but then suddenly a quiet earthquake threw the room back and forth and Mortimer fell off cutting his hands on the glass he once saw. The door had opened but cliche enough it was very tedious. The doors opened revealing some sort of stairs upwards, Mortimer followed the path to hopefully finding where he was. He climbed the mountain for at least two hours and to him that meant a lot, including the fact he wasn’t even near the top made Mortimer wonder if he would ever see his family again. He kept climbing, halfway there: he found a weapon, a iron sword, he knew it would increase the weight to get up, but on the other hand he would think of meeting deadly animals on the way without it. So he decided to take it, what took him two hours became three and what was a little “nerd” in a school always getting beaten up was now a “mountain warrior”. At first he would look at what he became, and think to himself ‘Is this really who I am?’ and then he wouldn’t beat himself up on the idea. It took him weeks to find the top of the mountain. The top didn’t have anything– except for a molded piece of metal, Mortimer found the piece of metal familiar– “THE GLOWING LIGHT!”. He finally remembered who he was: he was Mortimer. He tapped on the light like he had known what to do. Whilst tapping the light transported him to a island, wait: at floating island with a citadel. Mortimer knew this place from the back of his hand as he had seen this place in a dream or a fairy tale. He strolled through the citadel and looked for someone to talk to. No-one was there, it was abandoned, it was weird for him since that dream (/fairy tale) had people everywhere. He shouted and it echoed through the halls. Then he heard a response and three people came through the door, “SON!” the man who looked about 40 and in that moment of despair Mortimer realised these were his parents. But he then walked backwards, he asked who the extra person was. But in conclusion it was his nine year old sister. Mortimer ruled the council and restored people to the island, Mortimer married when he was 28 and lived happily ever after: until his mum died of terminal cancer.
